Responsible gambling, and the German tools behind it
Germany did something unusual when it legalised online slots in 2021: instead of relying on operators to behave, it built the safeguards into the licence itself and wired several of them into central infrastructure that no single operator controls. Understanding those tools matters even for someone playing outside the German system, because they set the standard against which everything else can be measured.
OASIS: an exclusion that travels
OASIS is a nationwide register of excluded players, maintained on behalf of the supervisory authorities and technically operated by the regional administration in Darmstadt. Its defining property is reach. An entry does not block one website; it blocks every operator in Germany that holds a permit — online slots, online poker, sports betting, betting shops, arcades and casinos alike. Each of them must query the register before allowing play.
An exclusion can be requested by the player (self-exclusion) or entered by an operator or a third party with legitimate cause (third-party exclusion). The minimum duration is three months. It does not lapse automatically: it ends only when the excluded person applies for removal, and never before the minimum period has run. That asymmetry is deliberate — the register is designed to be easy to enter and slow to leave, because the moment of wanting out is not the moment when judgement is at its best.
LUGAS: one limit across every operator
The second piece of central infrastructure is LUGAS, the cross-operator activity and limit system. It enforces a combined deposit ceiling of 1,000 euros per calendar month across all German-permitted operators together, so opening a second account achieves nothing. Raising the ceiling is possible but requires the operator to run a check on the player's economic circumstances, and it is not granted on request alone.
LUGAS also enforces something less discussed and arguably more effective: a ban on parallel sessions. A player may be active at exactly one permitted operator at a time. Switching means logging out and waiting, which removes the pattern of three lobbies open in three browser tabs.

Which of this reaches Richroyal — and which does not
None of it. Richroyal does not appear on the whitelist of the joint gambling authority, and every mechanism above is attached to that permit. OASIS cannot be queried by an operator that is not part of the system. The LUGAS ceiling does not apply. There is no one-euro cap, no five-second floor, no mandated panic button and no parallel-session block. Signs worth taking seriously
- Deposits topped up mid-session because the planned amount ran out.
- Play continued in order to recover a loss rather than for entertainment.
- The size of a session concealed from a partner, or reframed when asked.
- Money intended for rent, groceries or repayments entering a gambling account.
- Sleep, work or appointments rearranged around playing time.
- Relief rather than enjoyment when a session ends.
One of these is a warning. Several together are a pattern, and a pattern does not resolve itself through a better strategy — there is no strategy that changes a house edge.
Independent help in Germany
Support exists that costs nothing and sells nothing. The federal health education agency BZgA runs the Spielen mit Verantwortung programme with confidential counselling and written information. Every federal state funds addiction counselling centres that advise on gambling specifically, in person or remotely, free of charge and without needing a referral. None of them asks where the money was lost, and none of them reports to an operator.
For anyone supporting somebody else, those same services advise relatives — which is often the more realistic first step, because the person playing is rarely the first to notice.
