Cashback at Richroyal: Returning a Share of What Was Lost

Of all the promotional formats, cashback is the one with the least misleading structure. It does not pretend to add money to an account; it returns a percentage of what has already been lost over a defined period. That honesty makes it the easiest offer to evaluate and, for a certain kind of player, the only one worth accepting. It also makes it the offer that most clearly reveals the underlying arithmetic of gambling, which is why this page spends as much time on that arithmetic as on the terms.

How the calculation runs

At the end of a period, typically a week or a month, the operator computes net losses across the account: everything staked and lost, less anything won and still held. A stated percentage of that figure is credited back. A player who broke even receives nothing, which is not a flaw but the definition of the product. Some operators exclude bonus money from the calculation, so losses funded by a bonus do not count towards the rebate, and some exclude particular game categories. Both exclusions are in the terms and both materially change the number.

The one distinction that decides the value

CreditingConsequence
As cashwithdrawable at once, subject only to the 15 € payout floor
As bonus funds40 times turnover within 14 days, 5 € stake ceiling while active

The gap between those two rows is enormous. A 40 € rebate credited as cash is 40 €. The same rebate credited as bonus funds is an obligation to stake 1.600 € inside a fortnight for a chance at keeping it. Nothing else in the offer matters half as much, and the terms always state which applies. The mechanics of the requirement are set out on the wagering page.

Why a rebate does not change the outcome

Every game carries a built-in margin, which is how the operator earns and is not a secret. Cashback returns a fraction of the losses that margin produces; it never returns all of them, because an offer that did would have no purpose. A ten percent rebate on a 400 € losing month leaves a 360 € loss. What the format genuinely does is smooth variance, which is worth something to a player who was going to play anyway and is worth nothing to a player who plays longer because a rebate exists. That second effect is the reason the format is offered at all, and recognising it is the difference between using cashback and being used by it.

The German context around the loss itself

A rebate is only interesting in relation to the losses it follows, and German law puts a hard boundary on those losses in a way that no promotional term can. Under the Glücksspielstaatsvertrag in force since 1 July 2021, an operator on the whitelist of the Gemeinsame Glücksspielbehörde der Länder reports every deposit to LUGAS, which enforces a single ceiling of 1.000 € per month across all German-licensed platforms combined, raisable only after a documented affordability check. Virtual slots run at a maximum 1 € stake with five seconds between spins, no autoplay and no jackpots, so the rate at which money can be lost is itself capped. A panic button suspends the account for 24 hours, and OASIS, the nationwide register operated by the Regierungspräsidium Darmstadt, allows a self-block of at least three months covering every licensed operator at once. Richroyal is licensed elsewhere in the European Union and appears on none of that infrastructure. A cashback offer here therefore sits on top of losses that nothing external limits, and the only ceiling is the deposit limit a reader sets by hand in the account settings, described on the self-exclusion page.

Using the format sensibly

Read whether the credit is cash or bonus before anything else. Check which games and which funds count towards the calculation. Note the period boundary, since a loss on the wrong side of it belongs to a different cycle. Never increase stakes because a share will come back, as that arithmetic never works. And if a rebate is the reason a session continues rather than ends, the BZgA campaign Spielen mit Verantwortung and its Check dein Spiel self-test are the right next stop.

Questions and answers

Is cashback calculated on losses or on stakes?
On net losses over the defined period, which is the difference between everything deposited into play and whatever balance is left when the period closes. A player who ends level receives nothing, which is the correct outcome, since there was no loss to return. Offers calculated on stakes rather than losses are a different product and behave very differently.
Does returned money carry a turnover requirement?
It depends on how the operator credits it. Cash cashback is withdrawable immediately and is the genuinely valuable version. Cashback credited as bonus funds inherits the standard obligations of this platform, meaning 40 times within 14 days and a 5 € stake ceiling, which reduces its real worth considerably. The terms state which of the two applies.
Does cashback reduce the house edge?
It softens it slightly and never removes it. A ten percent return on losses leaves ninety percent of them intact, so a losing month remains a losing month. Treating cashback as a reason to play longer converts a small rebate into a larger loss, which is exactly the behaviour the format is designed to encourage.
How would German rules affect a cashback offer?
The offer would sit inside a hard deposit ceiling. LUGAS caps deposits at 1.000 € per month across every German-licensed platform combined, so the losses a rebate could be calculated on are bounded by law. Richroyal is outside that system, which means both the losses and the rebate are unbounded in principle.
